Getting Up

On my early morning run this week, I experienced something many runners do.  I fell.

In my mind, I'm hoping that it looked like something out of The Matrix.  In reality, I know it looked like a cross of Lucille Ball meets Phoebe from Friends.

 

What does one do when lying on the concrete at 5:00 a.m. with about 3 more miles to go?  It made me think about life in general.  Let's face it, life sometimes propels you to the top or performs an all time greatest leg sweep move taking you down.  

 

Regardless, it's how we negotiate both scenarios that matters.  Maintaining gratitude when you're at the peak or pit is essential.  With enormous things going on, there's always something to be grateful for.  However, it doesn't hurt to have a "go to" phrase that you say to yourself when things get tough. Our minds can be tricky, visualizing great things for us in one moment while chastising our mistakes in an instant.  We know the power of positive thinking and the influence on what we feel and do. Maintaining it in the moment is a completely different scenario though isn't it?

 

How do you handle things when it gets rough?  What do you say to yourself in that moment?

 

So, how did I manage at 5:00 a.m. lying face down on the concrete?  I believe the direct quote was "Ouch dammit" as I got up and began running.  I'm not going to lie, it hurt.  As I began running with uncertainty, I kept thinking I'VE GOT THIS!  You know what, I did.

 

Isn't that what matters?
